EO Conducting Course

In 2024, Ensemble OrQuesta will once again give young conductors the opportunity to conduct a fully staged opera under the guidance of Ensemble OrQuesta’s and Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra’s Artistic Director Marcio da Silva.

Don Giovanni

The Ensemble OrQuesta team are putting together another academy of Mozart's Don Giovanni, this time with a revival of Marcio da Silva's 2017 minimalist production.

Rehearsals will take place in Hastings from 11th to 21th March with a performance on the 22nd of March, at Christ Church, St Leonards on Sea and further performances in London from the 26th to the 29th of March at The Cockpit, in Marylebone.

This academy will be in partnership with the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra and the performance will be accompanied by an HPO Ensemble of 8 musicians (Flute, Oboe, Bassoon and string quintet).

Participating conductors will be coached on opera conducting technique.

The academy will be led by EO’s artistic director Marcio da Silva.

Each of the two participating conductors will conduct at least one half of a performance. In the subsequent performances they can participate as assistants.

Production period: 11th-22nd March (Module I), 13th-29th March (Module II)

Venue: Christ Church, St Leonards on Sea and The Cockpit, London

Tuition fee: £1,500 (does not include accommodation - payments can be made in instalments)

Acis & Galatea | Dido & Aeneas

The Ensemble OrQuesta team, for the first time since 2019, will put forward another academy fully taking place in London. This unique professional development opportunity will have rehearsals and performances taking place at The Cockpit, Marylebone.

This academy will feature Marcio da Silva's 2018 production of Handel's Acis and Galatea in a double bill with his 2016 production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.

The performances will be accompanied by Ensemble OrQuesta Baroque (recorders/oboes, string quartet and harpsichord) and the academy will be led by EO’s harpsichordist Predrag Gosta and EO’s Artistic Director Marcio da Silva.

Participating conductors will be coached on conducting technique and the baroque style.

Each of the two participating conductors will conduct at least one performance of one of the two operas. In the subsequent performance they can participate as assistants or continue players.

Performance dates: 30th & 31st May

Production period: 22nd-31st May

Teseo

Ensemble OrQuesta’s final academy of the year will also take place in London with performances at The Cockpit, Marylebone.

This academy will feature a new production by Marcio da Silva.

The performances will be accompanied by Ensemble OrQuesta Baroque and the academy will be led by EO’s harpsichordist Predrag Gosta and EO’s Artistic Director Marcio da Silva.
